Lincoln, NE — Today, Chris Backemeyer, Democratic candidate for Nebraska’s First District, issued the statement below following his victory in today’s primary election:

“Every door knocked, every conversation had, every vote cast, that is what tonight is made of. I am humbled and energized by the trust this community has placed in me, and I do not take it lightly for a single moment.

“I want to acknowledge Eric Moyer for running a race focused on the issues that matter to this community, and he did it with integrity. I have a great deal of respect for him and I’m grateful we could have that kind of conversation in front of voters.

“Running for office for the first time, I knew this would be a challenge. What I found along the way was something I won’t forget — neighbors who care deeply about their community and the people in it, and who are ready to build a better future together.

“But tonight is not the finish line. It is the starting point.

“Mike Flood has had his time. Now it’s ours. Between now and November, we will work harder than ever — because the people of the First District deserve a representative who works as hard as they do and who is ready to fight for them.

“I am ready for that fight. And with you beside me, I know we will win.”
