Lincoln, NE — Today, the Backemeyer for Congress campaign set the record straight after Mike Flood declined a debate with the League of Women Voters outright and misrepresented the negotiations over a second debate with Nebraska Public Media.

In July, the Backemeyer campaign received debate invitations from the League of Women Voters and Nebraska Public Media, and promptly accepted both. On September 1, the League of Women Voters informed the campaign that Flood had declined their invitation outright, and today confirmed that the debate will not take place.

Talks with Nebraska Public Media have gone similarly. The Flood campaign offered only two dates. The Backemeyer campaign countered by making Chris available any day in October, and that offer still stands.

“If Mike Flood is so busy that he can’t talk to Nebraskans in the entire month of October, he should just come out and say it. Voters should ask why Flood would rather invent a story than admit the truth: he doesn’t want to stand on a stage and defend a war with no strategy, a bill he admits he didn’t read, and tariffs crushing our farmers. Nebraskans can draw their own conclusions about why someone asking for their vote is working this hard to avoid earning it,” said Backemeyer.
