Backemeyer Endorsed by New Democrat Coalition Action Fund
Lincoln — Today, the New Democrat Action Fund, which represents the largest coalition of Democrats in the House of Representatives, endorsed fifth-generation Nebraskan and national security expert Chris Backemeyer for Nebraska’s First District.
“I couldn’t be more excited to add Chris Backemeyer to our New Dem ranks. He is running a strong, smart, and issue-focused campaign that puts Nebraska’s First District within reach in November,” said Chair of the New Democrat Action Fund Greg Stanton (AZ-04). “Nebraska voters are hungry for a pragmatic leader like Chris who is focused on driving down costs and getting things done. We are ready to help him run through the tape and win in 35 days.”
“I’m proud to have the support of the New Dems. I spent 21 years serving our country in national security roles, where the focus is on the mission and getting the job done,” said Chris Backemeyer. “That’s the pragmatic approach the New Dems bring to Congress, and it’s what Nebraska’s First District deserves. People here want lower costs on groceries, gas, and healthcare, and someone who will put solutions ahead of partisan bickering. I will bring accountability to Washington and deliver for our farmers, veterans, and working families.”
The endorsement comes as NE-01 remains squarely on the national radar: the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) named the district to its “Districts in Play” list earlier this cycle, the first time it’s appeared on that list in 20 years. And a recent outside poll from Global Strategy Group shows Backemeyer leading 49% to 45% head-to-head — a lead that holds even when third-party candidates are included, where Backemeyer is up by one point.
Backemeyer’s campaign has also built a broad coalition of support heading into November: Chris was recently endorsed by the Nebraska Farmers Union, which for the first time in 20 years endorsed a Democrat alone, as well as the Nebraska State Education Association (NSEA).
