Lincoln, NE — Today, Democratic candidate for Nebraska’s First Congressional District Chris Backemeyer received the endorsement of U.S. Senator Andy Kim (D-New Jersey). Senator Kim is a leader in the U.S. Senate, fighting to lower costs for working families, strengthen our national security, and root out corporate influence in our politics. His support underscores the growing momentum behind Backemeyer’s candidacy and the potential to flip this seat for Democrats.

“I worked at the desk next to Chris Backemeyer at the White House a decade ago and saw him serving our country in some of the highest pressure situations in national security. His experience and dedication to service are what Congress needs in this moment. I know he’ll always put Nebraska families first, and look forward to having him serve alongside me again to work for them and all Americans,” said Senator Andy Kim.

“Senator Andy Kim knows what it takes to stand up for working families and protect our democracy, and it means the world to me to have his support,” said Chris Backemeyer. “We share a deep commitment to serving the greater good and putting country above self, principles that have guided both of our careers. I’m honored to have his trust and look forward to joining him in the fight to build a better future for Nebraskans and all Americans.”

Senator Kim and Backemeyer previously worked together at the White House National Security Council, where Kim served as Director for Iraq and Backemeyer served as Director for Iran.

For more than two decades, Chris served at the highest levels of national security and economic policy in the U.S. Department of State and the White House National Security Council. Now, he’s running for Congress to serve the state that shaped him, fighting for working families, expanding opportunity, and building a better future for all Nebraskans.
