Backemeyer continues to build support in Nebraska’s First Congressional District
Lincoln, NE — Today, Democratic candidate for Nebraska’s First Congressional District Chris Backemeyer announced the endorsement of former governor and U.S. Senator Ben Nelson.
“This is a moment that demands Chris’ experience and vision for our state,” said former Senator Ben Nelson. “Nebraska deserves a leader who understands what’s at stake, isn’t afraid to hold Washington accountable, and has the experience to deliver when it matters most. Chris has built a career tackling tough challenges and is ready to step in on Day One.”
“Senator Nelson spent his career working tirelessly for the people of Nebraska, and it is a profound honor to have his support,” said Chris Backemeyer. “He demonstrated that good leadership means asking the hard questions, listening to different perspectives, and rolling up your sleeves to get things done. That’s the same approach I’ll bring to Congress as I fight for the families and communities across the First District.”
Last month, Chris announced the endorsement of five respected local leaders: Chris Funk, former Executive Director and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Lincoln and Nebraska; Ken Haar, former State Senator and Lincoln City Councilmember; Chuck Hassebrook, former member of the University of Nebraska Board of Regents and former Executive Director of the Center for Rural Affairs; Vince Powers, former Chair of the Nebraska Democratic Party and respected attorney; and Tammy Ward, former Lincoln City Councilmember and community advocate.
For more than two decades, Chris served at the highest levels of national security and economic policy in the U.S. Department of State and the White House National Security Council. Now, he’s running for Congress to serve the state that shaped him, fighting for working families, expanding opportunity, and building a better future for all Nebraskans.
