Lincoln, NE — Today, Chris Backemeyer, Democratic candidate for Congress in Nebraska’s first district, released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Senate’s temporary funding bill:
“The question now is simple: Will Mike Flood finally stand up for working families and call for a vote to extend health care tax credits, or will he continue to let premiums soar while Nebraskans struggle to get by?
“From groceries to housing, costs are already skyrocketing. If Mike Flood and Congressional Republicans fail to act, Nebraska families will face steep premium hikes at a time when they can least afford it. There’s no excuse not to act.”
Chris was born and raised in Lincoln, just miles from where his great-great-grandparents homesteaded their family farms in Cass County in the 1800s. A fifth-generation Nebraskan, Chris grew up with a deep appreciation for hard work, resilience, and the power of community.
For twenty years, Backemeyer served at the highest levels of national security and economic policy in the U.S. Department of State and the National Security Council. Now he’s running for Congress to serve the state that shaped him, fighting for families, opportunity, and a better future for all Nebraskans.
